Plans submitted for new PBSA development in Glasgow’s Broomielaw
Final plans have been submitted for a new Purpose-Built-Student-Accommodation-led mixed-use development which will provide 531 new student beds and revitalise the Broomielaw area.
Valeo Management Europe, which operates the Liv Student brand, has lodged £60m proposals with Glasgow City Council for the currently vacant brownfield site on Carrick Street, which was previously home to the GAP Group headquarters.
If approved, the proposals would lead to the development of managed student accommodation, offering a mix of individual studio rooms and more affordable cluster flats, which will make up 70% of the project. The accommodation aims to attract both domestic and international students.
In addition to helping address Glasgow’s shortage of student accommodation, the proposals include a versatile commercial unit designed to serve the new and ever-growing community in the Broomielaw area. Importantly, the proposals will also preserve and incorporate the modern Glasgow City Mission building, ensuring the charity’s continued operation of the site and creating a backdrop that will complement its architectural form.
David Saunders, Managing Director of Valeo Management Europe said:
“We are delighted to have submitted our application for new purpose-built student accommodation for Carrick Street.
“The Broomielaw and wider River Clyde Waterfront is undergoing significant transformation, and we hope that our plans will go somewhere to support this transition and provide much-needed student rooms in Glasgow.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have engaged with us throughout the consultation process and provided us with their valuable feedback.”
The final submission marks the culmination of an extensive period of community consultation, with events being hosted in June and September this year.
This consultation period allowed residents to learn about the proposed development, engage with the project team, and provide their feedback.
